Hi there!

I’m Sonja, a freelance copywriter and marketing communications specialist in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.

When I’m not crafting engaging copy to help your business standout from the crowd, you’ll find me hanging out with my two ‘fluff ball’ cavoodles.

It’s no secret that dogs are my soft spot.

Then there are lattes … I love those too, but not past 1 PM!

My story

Like most Gen X’s I’ve had a few career changes before finding my thing …

From the colourful world of beauty therapy to roles in administration, it was when I began working in marketing communications (or mar comms as it’s often called) that I discovered a love of copywriting.

I’ve spent 15 plus years honing my copywriting skills in various mar comms roles, spreading my wings across several industries including:

  • financial services

  • beauty and skincare

  • membership organisations

  • community sport.

Naturally each industry needed a different writing style and tone of voice.  From formal and professional to casual and maybe even cheeky tones of voice, you’ll find I can write it.

Along the way, I completed a Bachelor of Business (Marketing). Life was a balancing act for a while, juggling full-time work with part-time study! But, hey I do like a challenge, plus it taught me to plan my time well.

After some timeout, words once again made their way into my life.

I entered the world of freelance copywriting and Worderati was born.

I’ve also supercharged my copywriting skills by training as an SEO copywriter so I can help small businesses like yours get found on Google.

With a healthy appetite to learn and research (with some nibbling on dark chocolate along the way), copywriting brings me joy!

So, if you need someone to untangle your thoughts and put them into meaningful words that tell your story, get in touch with me today.

My copywriting process

How to get your word-party started with Worderati

Haven’t engaged a copywriter before?

That’s okay.  There’s a first time for everything.

Backed by 15 plus years of marketing communications and copywriting experience, my priority is to help make your business shine bright and stand out from the crowd.

To do that, I use a 7-step process that helps me to understand your business, brand, audience and goals.

Here’s how I work with you to deliver the magical human-centric content that’ll resonate with your audience and persuade them to act.

Step 1: A free 30-minute discovery call

The discovery call is a casual chat and chance for me to gather some information about your business and what type of copy you need.

It also helps me understand the scope of the project so I can draft a proposal that includes a quote, plus the T&Cs.

Step 2: Proposal and deposit

If you’re happy with my proposal, I’ll send an invoice for a 50% deposit – then I can pop you into my schedule and secure you a spot in my calendar.

Step 3: Creative Brief (often via a video call)

This fabulous in-depth document, AKA a questionnaire, helps me dig deep to uncover the hidden gems that lie beneath your business, what you need and what you’d like to achieve.

Your passion, wisdom and knowledge of your business are the hidden gems. It’s my job to tap into those and transform them into words that your audience will connect with.

My Creative Briefing process also includes building a Customer Persona or Avatar. This allows me to dig deep to know who your ideal customer is.

Step 4: Research, planning and development

Here’s where I get to work and do my thing. I research your industry, competitors, ideal customers and SEO keywords/keyphrases (if needed).

When it comes to web copy, I’m happy to liaise with your web developer. This helps ensure the web design and content work seamlessly together to achieve a common goal.

Step 5: First draft & review

I’ll send you a first draft for you to review. This is where we make sure we’re on the same page. Like with any great partnership, collaboration and communication is key. Here you can give me your feedback and comments.

Step 6: Second draft & final review

Based on your first round feedback I’ll make the changes and send you a second draft for your review.

This is your final chance to request any final edits which can be incorporated into the final copy for sign off.

Step 7: Final copy & invoicing

All being well, I’ll send you the final document ready for publishing, together with the invoice for the project.
